Laura (a paramedic), is prevented from killing herself by a lonely man eager for love, Peter (an office clerk with romantic dreams). Because of the exertion of saving Laura's life, Peter has a heart attack and must himself be saved . It turns out he needs a heart transplant, but his rare blood type severely limits his options. The two unfortunates fall in love and struggle to build their fragile world together, while dark secrets in their past threaten to ruin their love.
